How to preview the search experience in the Playground
The Playground is a simulation environment that allows you to preview and simulate how the search experience will appear for different users, products, and domains.
Accessing the Playground
- Open the left navigation menu
- Click on Search
- Click on the Playground tab
Simulating Search
Follow these steps to preview how a search experience will appear:
- Enter a search term in the search bar
- Select the applicable domain scope
- Click Generate Preview
[!NOTE] Previews may take up to 30 seconds to load.
Merchandising Rules
You can experiment with merchandising rules directly in the Playground to see how they impact product ranking before going live.
[!IMPORTANT] Rule changes made in the Playground are strictly temporary. They will not affect the live experience until you explicitly save them to a component.
Rule Types
There are two types of search rules:
- Global Rules: Apply across all search experiences regardless of the search term entered.
- Search Term Rules: Apply only when a user searches for a specific keyword or phrase.
You can manage both rule types directly within the Playground or via the Rules tab in the main navigation. Existing active rules will populate automatically when the preview loads.
Previewing Rules in the Playground
There are two ways to preview rules in the Playground:
Method A: Using the Rule Builder
- Click the ADD RULE button to configure a new merchandising rule. Click "Add rule" to update the preview.
- It may take up to 30 seconds for the preview to update.
- Once the preview updates, you will see the new sequence of products based on the rule you applied.
Method B: Visual Pinning (Drag-and-Drop)
- Click and hold a product tile within the preview, then drag it to your desired location.
- This automatically generates a pinning rule for that product location.
Saving Your Rule Changes
Once you are satisfied, you have two options to save the rules you created in the Playgound:
- Update Global Rules: Click UPDATE GLOBAL RULES to navigate to the Global Rules management screen, where you can review and confirm your changes.
- Save Search Term Rules: Click the + button next to any search term rule you created to open the creation flow with your rule settings pre-populated.
